Summary:

This guide shows you how to create a new page in WordPress using basic features (such as text, headers and images) as well as how to edit an existing one using the WordPress block editor. Estimated time: 5–10 minutes.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Log in to WordPress
  2. Go to “Pages” → “Add New”.
  3. Enter a Page title (e.g. “About”).
  4. Click into the main content area and start typing.
  5. To add a specific block, click the + button and choose what you need (e.g. Paragraph, Heading, Image, List, Buttons).
  6. When you’re ready, click Publish, then click Publish again to confirm.
  7. Click View Page to check it looks right on the website.

Editing an existing page

Step-by-step guide

  1. Go to Pages → All Pages.
  2. Find the page you want (or use the search box).
  3. Hover over the page title and click Edit.
  4. Make your changes in the editor.
  5. Click Update to save.
  6. Click View Page to confirm the changes.

Common edits

Change headings

  1. Click the heading you want to change.
  2. Type your new text.
  3. (Optional) In the sub menu, choose the heading level (H2, H3, etc.).
  4. Click Update.

Add an image

  1. Click where you want the image.
  2. Click + and choose Image.
  3. Choose Upload (from your computer) or Media Library (already uploaded).
  4. Add Alt text in the right sidebar (a short description of the image).
  5. Click Update.

Add a button (link to another page)

  1. Click + and choose Buttons.
  2. Type the button text (e.g. “Contact us”).
  3. Add the link to https://[Your Domain Name]/[page-slug] (or search for an existing page).
  4. Click Update.

Add a link in text

  1. Highlight the text you want to link.
  2. Click the link icon.
  3. Paste the URL or search for a page on your site.
  4. Press Enter, then click Update.

Save a draft instead of publishing

  • Click Save draft (new page) or switch Status to Draft (existing page), then click Update.

Troubleshooting

I can’t find the page I just created

Check Pages → All Pages and use the search box.

Look in the Draft filter if you didn’t publish it.

My changes aren’t showing on the live site

Make sure you clicked Update (or Publish).

You may also need to add the page to your menu to make it easy to find

If you use a caching plugin, clear cache, or check using a private/incognito window or another device.

I don’t see the editor sidebar

Click the Settings icon in the top right (left of the Publish/Save button) to show the sidebar.
