Summary:

This guide shows you how to add an existing page to your site’s main navigation menu. You can repeat the same steps to add multiple pages. Estimated time: 3–5 minutes.

Before you start

You’ll need:

Tip: If your site uses the Block Theme “Site Editor” approach, the menu may be edited in Appearance → Editor instead of Appearance → Menus. This guide covers the most common method first.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Log in to WordPress
  2. Go to Appearance → Menus.
  3. At the top, choose the menu you want to edit (often called Main Menu or Primary Menu) and click Select.
  4. Under “Add menu items”, open “Pages”.
  5. Click the tab “View All”
  6. Tick the page(s) you want to add.
  7. Click Add to Menu.
  8. In Menu structure, drag and drop the new page(s) into the right order.
  9. (Optional) To make a dropdown, drag the page slightly to the right under the page you want it to sit beneath.
  10. In Menu settings, make sure the correct “Display location” is selected (often “Primary” or “Header Menu”).
  11. Click “Save Menu”.
  12. Visit your website and check the menu appears as expected.

Troubleshooting

I can’t see “Appearance → Menus”

You may not have permission. Ask an Administrator to update your role.

If your site is using a block theme, menus are often edited via Appearance → Editor → Navigation.

My menu changes didn’t appear on the website

Make sure you clicked “Save Menu.”

Confirm the menu is assigned to the correct Display location (e.g. Primary).

Clear any caching plugin, or refresh using a private/incognito window/different device.

I added the page but it’s not clickable or goes to the wrong place

Expand the menu item and confirm the URL looks correct for the web page.

If you recently changed your page’s permalink, remove the menu item and re-add it.
